The Best Tips for a Successful Preschool Halloween

    • Plan non-scary activities with friendly themes. When it comes to preschool, keeping things gently spooky is best. No child likes feeling scared or uncomfortable. Plan activities that encourage the imagination while keeping everyone feeling safe.
    • Be mindful of food allergies and offer allergy-safe or non-food treats. Make sure you have alternative treat options for kids with special needs. Check out some great options to have on hand!

Fruit Cups with Halloween Stickers – Individual fruit cups (like mandarin oranges or applesauce) with a cute Halloween sticker on top.

Gluten-Free Pretzel Bags – Small bags of gluten-free pretzels shaped like bats, pumpkins, or regular twists.

Mini Rice Cakes – Plain or lightly flavored mini rice cakes (check the label to ensure gluten-free).

Popcorn Bags – Pre-packaged mini popcorn bags (plain or lightly salted) with a festive ribbon or sticker.

GoGo Squeez Applesauce Pouches – Easy, mess-free, and usually labeled gluten-free.

    Instead of candy, try…

Stickers – Halloween-themed or general fun designs like animals, stars, or smiley faces.

Mini Bubbles – Small bubble bottles in festive shapes or bright colors.

Pencils or Crayons – Halloween pencils, mini crayon boxes, or even glow-in-the-dark options.

Stamps or Temporary Tattoos – Kid-friendly designs like pumpkins, cats, or friendly monsters.

Mini Play-Dough or Putty – Small containers of gluten-free play-dough in Halloween colors.

    • Play fun, festive Halloween music and movement songs. This is a great time to sing and dance! Check out 5 Little Pumpkins for a fun Halloween song, then check out a Fun Halloween Playlist for your party!
    • Read friendly Halloween books with silly or sweet stories. You already know my favorite books, but here are three more that are must-reads! Read I’m Not Scary, Skeletons Are NOT Spooky, and Big Pumpkin.
    "I'm Not Scary"
    "Skeletons are not Spooky"
    "Big Pumpkin"
    • Encourage simple and comfortable costumes. Little ones can easily get frustrated when costumes are uncomfortable, hard to walk in, or heavy. Plan a lightweight costume that offers freedom of movement. Be sure to place accessories like wands or bags to the side while engaging with classmates.
