There are two different formats, both are cut and paste to build fine motor skills! Understanding pattern is the first step to higher learning and working through addition, subtraction, and fractions. These worksheets provide the building blocks to sequencing and prediction in later learning. So, let’s complete some patterns!
Pattern Worksheets for Preschool
Use scissors to cut out the images at the bottom of the page, then use a glue stick to paste the next correct image into each pattern. Some of the same images are used in multiple patterns to really get your little ones thinking. Pattern worksheets for preschoolers are essential for gaining future math skills and identifying correctly sizes, shapes, colors, and figures. Keep your eyes peeled, the Hollydog makes an appearance!
Shape Pattern Worksheets
Are you learning about shapes? These Shape Pattern Worksheets are great for building vocabulary and thinking about what comes next. Identify circles, squares, diamonds, hearts, stars, ovals, rectangles, and triangles.
Size Pattern Worksheets
These size pattern worksheets are great for deciphering small vs. big. Cut out the images on the right and glue the next correct image into the pattern. Be sure to talk about the images to build vocabulary and give a few examples of big and small before you begin the worksheets.
This cut and paste motion builds the small muscles in the fingers and hands. These worksheets are great to use when working with a small group of children, just 2 or 3 in a group.
Picture Pattern Worksheets
Use scissors to cut out the images on the right side of the page, then use a glue stick to paste the next correct image into each pattern. Be sure to talk about the images with your little ones. This is also a great chance to build vocabulary! One worksheet is food themed and the other is animal themed.
Color Pattern Worksheets
Next, download these two color pattern worksheets with the goal of identifying which color comes next. Talk about the colors you see in the images. This is a great time to do a color check! Continue to build vocabulary by asking the shape of each image, and have fun working together by figuring out what comes next! Finally, complete the Shape Pattern Worksheet.
Threading Pasta Pattern Activity
Are you looking for a fun activity to learn about patterns? Threading pasta (or large beads) is a great activity to do with your little ones in a small group. Dying pasta is super easy and a great fine motor activity! Have 5 plastic bags each with a different noodle. Add 3 drops of food coloring and 1 tablespoon of vinegar. Spread your noodles out to dry (30 minutes), then grab some string and get threading! What patterns can you make?
Pattern Books for Preschool
A great way to learn about patterns is to spot them in a book! Check out these great pattern books for preschool! Read Monster Knows Patterns and A Pair of Socks. These books will get your little ones thinking about basic math concepts like matching, categorizing, and patterns!
