Why Alphabet Books Are Great for Preschoolers
Reading alphabet books together gives little learners a chance to point out familiar letters, make connections between letters and words, and build confidence as they learn their ABCs. The more children see and hear the alphabet in meaningful, playful ways, the more familiar those letters become as they begin their journey toward reading. Now, check out our top 10 list!
Z is for Moose
This book is a teacher’s pick! Moose thinks that the alphabet is easy and really the only letter worth getting excited about is M, for Moose of course. But, when M comes by and it’s not for Moose, it’s for Mouse, chaos ensues!

Alpha Oops!
This is a great book for little ones who already know a little bit about alphabetical order. Have you ever gotten tired of A always getting to go first? Some of the letters want to change their order and step out of line to show just how unique they are. The illustrations are unique and detailed too!
LMNO peas
This book is another teacher pick! Follow along with the peas as they explore the alphabet! I really like this book because each page is beautifully detailed and also includes potential interests and careers that each little one can explore!
Dr. Seuss’s ABC
I love this Dr. Seuss ABC book! Each page has a capital letter and lowercase letter, plus lots of words that begin with that same letter! It’s a classic book filled with fun!
Animalia
This book should absolutely be in your alphabet book collection! The illustrations are extraordinary and colorful! “B is for Beautiful Blue Butterflies Basking by a Babbling Brook.” Have fun trying to say every alliteration filled sentence aloud!
Alligators All Around
This book has been around for a long time and I just now discovered it! I love it! Maurice Sendak is a treasure and his illustrations are so unique! Hangout with the alligators as they burst balloons, catch colds, and so much more!
Apple Pie ABC
This is a really cute ABC book, especially if your little ones love dogs! This little pup will do everything from A–Z to get a piece of this pie! He watches it “bake,” he watches it “cool,” he’s “ready,” and he’s “steady”!
The Little Red Cat Who Ran Away and Learned His ABC’s
This is a cute alphabet book that is only pictures. I like this one because it gets your little ones talking out loud about what they see on each page. Discover dragons, eggs, and a wild chase through the alphabet!
Q is for Duck
This is a great alphabet book with a twist! Can you guess why Q is for Duck? I know, a duck goes, “Quack!” Have fun with all 26 letters of the alphabet!
Shiver Me Letters
Ok, it’s time for pirates! I had to add this book to my list because I know so many little ones who love to play “Pirates!” Have fun capturing all of the letters across the sea. Don’t forget to say “R!” with the pirates!
We hope you enjoyed The 10 Best Alphabet Books for Preschoolers (Hollydog Picks!). Each book was chosen with little learners in mind, with engaging stories, beautiful illustrations, and plenty of opportunities to make learning fun. Happy reading—and have fun spotting each letter!
